Pattern Notes

• The pattern is worked in joined rounds.

• To make a plush rim, you work double the amount of rows and then join the starting row to the last row to double it over.

Pattern Begins

Rim

Using a 6mm hook and white, ch 48 [54:60]. Making sure the chain isn’t twisted, join into 1st ch with sl st.

Note: The body is worked in joined rounds.

Note: You can also making a chainless foundation with the same amount of tr sts, this would count as rnd 1. Skip to rnd 2.

RND 1: ch 3, tr into each ch. Join into top of first tr (not ch 3) with a sl st. (48 [54:60] sts)

As you work your rows, you want the side facing you (your rs) to be on the outside of your work.

RND 2-4 [6:8]: ch 3, tr into each ch. Work last tr into sl st from prev rnd. Join into top of first tr (not ch 3) with a sl st. (48 [54:60] sts)

Now fold your rim so the bottom comes up through the middle with your rs facing you on the outide of your work at all times. Both sides of the rim will become the ‘rs’ facing out.

RND 5 [7:9]: ch 1, dc into each st and the corresponding ch.

NOTE: You will find this is a few sts from the same st in the round. If you try to join the first st of row 4 [6:8] you will find it twists. Simply join to the st that aligns with it once folded rather than trying to force it.

Main Hat

Attach red to any st.

RND 6 [8:10]-8 [10:12]: As row 2.

Decreasing begins

NOTE: You can either use a tr2tog or inv-dec with trebles.

Assembly

With your left over white yarn, make a 2-3in pom pom to go on your tip. You can either use cardboard cut outs or use a pom pom maker.

Wrap your yarn around your maker of choice, until it is very full. The fuller the better, if you’re using a pom pom maker, you want the arms to close tightly. If you’re using cardboard, make sure the centre hole is filled fully (you can use your yarn needle to thread it through the middle).

Cut around the middle with the scissors between both sides, making sure not to let the pom pom explode everywhere. Then take a length of yarn and tie it firmyl around the middle a few times, then trim the shape, making sure to leave the long tails as you’ll need these for attaching. Sew the ends through the tip of your hat and tie securely in the inside.
