Week Five Square Nineteen: Puff & Cluster

Stitches you need to know

YO yarn over - bring your yarn over your hook from the back over the top to the front

CH chain - pull your yarn over through the loop on your hook.

SLST slip stitch - insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, pull through loop on hook.

DC double crochet (US sc - single crochet) - insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. 

CH-SP chain space - the space created by a chain stitch.

Special Stitches

PUFF-ST puff stitch – YO and pull up to the height of the 3ch. Insert hook into chain space and YO, pulling through up to the height of the stitch again. Do this 5 times, until you have 11 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all loops. YO and pull through loop to secure.

Tension

Approx 7-8 puff stitches and 10 rows per 10 cm

The Pattern

Using your first colour, make a magic ring.

RND 1: ch 3, 11 tr into the ring. Pull tight. Fasten off.

Join your next colour to the top of any st.

RND 2: ch 3 (does not count as a stitch), puff stitch into base of the ch, ch, *puff stitch into top of next st, ch. Rep from * until you have 12 puff stitches. sl st into the top of your first puff stitch. Fasten off.

Join your next colour to the between of any two puff stitches in the chain space.

RND 3: ch 3 (does not count as a st), (3-cluster, ch, 3-cluster,) into the same ch-sp, ch, *(3-cluster, ch, 3-cluster, ch) in each ch-sp, (24 cluster stitches) Fasten off.

Join next colour into any ch-sp.

RND 4: (ch 3 (counts as tr), htr), continue to work in each ch-sp around, (htr, dc), (2 dc), (dc, htr), (htr, tr), (2 dtr, ch 2, 2 dtr), *(tr, htr), (htr, dc), (2 dc), (dc, htr), (htr, tr), (2 dtr, ch 2, 2 dtr), rep from * 3 times. Join into top of ch 3 with sl st. (56 sts)

RND 5-6:  ch 3 (counts as st), tr in each st to the corner-sp, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) into corner-sp. *Tr to the next corner-sp, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) into corner-sp, rep from * 3 times, tr to last st. (72⁄98 sts)

Fasten off and weave in your ends.
