Week Five Square Seventeen: Puff Stitch Stripes

Stitches you need to know

YO yarn over - bring your yarn over your hook from the back over the top to the front

CH chain - pull your yarn over through the loop on your hook.

SLST slip stitch - insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, pull through loop on hook.

DC double crochet (US sc - single crochet) - insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. 

CH-SP chain space - the space created by a chain stitch.

Special Stitches

PUFF-ST puff stitch – YO and pull up to the height of the 3ch. Insert hook into chain space and YO, pulling through up to the height of the stitch again. Do this 5 times, until you have 11 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all loops. YO and pull through loop to secure.

Tension

Approx 7-8 puff stitches and 10 rows per 10 cm

The Pattern

Using your MC, ch 27.

ROW 1: Working under both bumps, puff st in 4th ch from hook, *sk 1, puff-st, to second to last st, tr in last st. (12 puffs)

ROW 2: ch 1, dc in the top of each puff-st, and into each ch-sp.

ROW 3: ch 3, htr into first dc, puff st into ch-sp from row 1, *sk 1, puff-st in ch-sp from row 1, rep from * to second to last st, htr in last st.

ROW 4: As row 2.

ROW 5: ch 3, puff-st into ch-sp from row 3, htr into last dc. (11 puffs)

Rep rows 2-5 until you have 10 puff rows - ending on a puff row. Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Attach to any st in your last row, dc in each st to corner (dc ch, dc) into corner st, roughly place 25-27 sts down the edge.
